Buyer-Ready Website · Your audit follow-up

# Your Audit Showed Where You Win and Where You Don't. Here's What It Takes to Win More.

Your audit gave AI your website alongside competitors and real buyer requests, and reported who it told the buyer to call first, and why. The companies that win those comparisons aren't the biggest. Their sites state what the buyer's question asks about. This page walks through what a website update covers, what it costs, and how to tell whether you need an update or a rebuild.

Fixed price, agreed before any work starts. If your site doesn't need the work, we'll tell you.

What tips the comparisons we run

13 specifics

That's how many your audit checks your site for: equipment, materials, tolerances, ratings, certifications, lot sizes, lead times, industries served, and so on. They're the things a buyer's request names and AI matches against. Most sites we test state fewer than half of them.

The winning sites weren't bigger. One was a single page. They stated the numbers.

Why the comparison goes the way it does

## Your Website Has Two Jobs Now

AI does two jobs for your buyers. First it finds suppliers: an engineer describes what they need and ChatGPT names a few companies. Then it compares them: the engineer hands it the shortlist and asks which one to call. You never see either conversation. So your website has to do two jobs too.

Job 1

### Get found

Show up when a buyer describes what they need, not just when they search your name or your town. This takes pages that answer buyer questions, built over time. It's the ongoing half, and for a company that sells regionally it may not be the first priority.

Job 2

### Win the comparison

Once you're on a shortlist, your site has to tell a buyer in seconds what you make and for whom, and give AI the specifics it matches to a request. This is the half a website update fixes, once, and it's what your audit scored.

Specifics get matched. Adjectives don't. "Tight tolerances," "a wide range of materials" and "rugged, reliable performance" count as not found. A buyer's question names an alloy, a pressure rating, a temperature range, a quantity. AI can only match numbers to numbers.

What the update covers

## The Eight Things a Buyer, and AI, Look For

These are the eight things we check and fix. They're what a buyer looks for, and what AI needs to find, before anyone calls. Your audit's gaps list tells you which of these your site is missing; most sites we test are missing at least half. Seven of them are fixed once, in the update. The eighth, answering buyer questions, is ongoing work and isn't part of this project.

### 1. The welcome

A homepage that says what you make, for whom, and what to do next. Not a mission statement. When a site opens with its vision and values, that's what AI repeats back to the buyer, because it's all the site gave it.

### 2. The buyer's problem

A line down. A part needed Friday. A sensor that has to survive a washdown. A supplier that stopped returning calls. Name the situations you solve so a buyer recognizes their own.

### 3. What you can do, in numbers

A capabilities or product page with the specifics: equipment, materials and tolerances for a contract manufacturer; ratings, ranges, sizes and options for an OEM. Plus lot sizes or minimums, and typical lead times. This is the page that wins comparisons.

### 4. Proof

Example parts or installations with photos, your certifications, your reviews, and the industries you serve, on your own site. If it only lives on Google or in a directory, AI doesn't give you credit for it.

### 5. The people

Who a buyer would talk to, with names and years in the industry. A company with no named people reads as anonymous to a buyer and to AI.

### 6. An easy way to ask

Phone number in the header, a short quote or inquiry form, a way to attach a drawing, spec or CAD file, and a line on what happens next.

### 7. The technical basics

Page titles that say what you make and where, descriptions on every page, business and product schema, and no leftover placeholder pages. Search and AI tools rely on these to identify you.

### 8. Answers to buyer questions

A page for each product line or service, then articles answering the questions buyers ask before they call. This is how you get found for what you make, not just for your name. It builds month by month and isn't part of the update.

Update or rebuild

## Many Sites Need an Update, Not a Rebuild

The question is whether the problem is what your pages say or how the site is built. Often it's what they say. Here's how we decide, and you can check your own site against it right now.

### Update your existing site if

- It's on a platform you can keep working in (WordPress, HubSpot, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow)
- It loads quickly and works on a phone
- The basic structure exists: a products or capabilities page, an about page, a contact page
- The problem is mostly what the pages say, not how the site is built

### Rebuild if two or more of these are true

- It's on a platform nobody supports anymore, or one you can't log into
- It isn't usable on a phone
- Your products or capabilities are in a PDF, a photo, or missing entirely
- Adding a page requires a developer
- It has fewer than five real pages

**Not sure?** Send us the address and we'll tell you which one it is, and if the honest answer is that your site is fine, we'll say that too.

What it costs

## Three Options, One Fixed Price

The price is set before work begins and doesn't change. What moves it is the number of product or capability pages, the number of case studies, and whether we're updating or rebuilding.

Update

$4,500–$6,500

Good site, wrong words

- Rewrite the homepage, products or capabilities, about and contact pages
- One page that states your specifics: equipment, materials, tolerances, ratings, lead times
- Reviews, certifications and industries added to the site
- Technical fixes: titles, descriptions, schema, cleanup
- Inquiry path: phone in header, file upload

Most companies land here

Update Plus

$7,500–$9,500

Good site, missing pages

- Everything in Update
- A page for each product line or service (typically three to five)
- Two or three case studies with real parts or installations, photos and numbers
- A people page with names and experience
- Buyer FAQ page answering the questions your audit found

[Talk it through →](https://meetings-na2.hubspot.com/bob19/15-minute-zoom-call)

Rebuild

$10,000–$15,000

Site can't be saved

- Everything in Update Plus
- New site on a platform you can run yourself
- All eight items built from scratch
- Migration of anything worth keeping, with redirects
- Training so you can add pages without a developer

[Talk it through →](https://meetings-na2.hubspot.com/bob19/15-minute-zoom-call)

### Every project includes

- A kickoff interview to capture what's missing: equipment or product specs, materials, typical orders, the jobs or applications competitors turn down
- All copy written for you and approved by you before anything goes live
- The build, on your site
- A re-run of your audit's AI comparisons at 90 days, so you can see whether the answer changed

### Not included

- Photography and video (we'll tell you what to shoot)
- Hosting, domains and platform licenses
- Ongoing content after launch (that's the Authority Growth Program™, if and when you want it)

If you already have a web developer

## You're Welcome to Hand This to Them

A good web developer can build everything on this page. What they usually can't do is tell you which specifics a buyer's question asks about, because they don't come from manufacturing: the tolerance and alloy a contract manufacturer's customer searches for, the pressure rating and operating range an OEM's customer compares. Cobalt works only with manufacturers and industrial companies, and that's the part that wins the comparison. It's also the part we'd write either way, so if you'd rather have your own developer do the build, we can do the interview and the writing and hand it off.

Who this is for

## A Project on Its Own, or a First Step

### If you sell locally or regionally

This project may be all you need from us. Buyers who already know your name, or search your area, will find you, and the update makes sure that when they look you up, and when AI compares you, your site carries the proof. The site itself shouldn't stop there, though. The questions your sales and engineering people answer every week are the content buyers and AI are looking for. We'll show you how to keep adding those answers yourself, one page at a time.

### If you compete nationally

The website is the first step, not the last. Getting found when an engineer in another state describes what they need takes pages that answer buyer questions, added month after month. That's separate, ongoing work. We'll say so on the call, and we won't push it if it doesn't fit.

How it works

## Four Steps, About Six Weeks

Week 1

### Review and price

We go through your audit's gaps list, check your site against the update-or-rebuild test, and give you a fixed price.

Week 1–2

### Interview

One hour with you and your engineering or sales lead. We ask about what you make, the specs that matter, typical orders, and the work competitors turn down.

Week 2–4

### Write and approve

We write every page. You correct the numbers and approve the copy. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

Week 4–6

### Build and re-test

We build it on your site and show you how to add pages. At 90 days we re-run your AI comparisons.

Who's doing the work

## We Came From Your Side of the Desk

Bob Engelhart ran a manufacturing company for 23 years before starting Cobalt. Cobalt works only with manufacturers and industrial companies, and the writing team includes engineers. That matters here, because the update lives or dies on getting the specifics right: the material, the rating, the tolerance, the quantity. Those are the things AI matches, and the things a generic web agency gets wrong.

## Next Step

Fifteen minutes. We'll go through your gaps list, tell you whether it's an update or a rebuild, and give you a price. If your site doesn't need the work, we'll say so.
